Nasri injury not as serious as first thought – Matuidi + Pavlyuchenko offer

In Arsenal FC on July 21, 2009 by Highbury N5 Editor

Evening all,

Bit of an up and down day today, we beat a pub team 7-1 in a friendly but we have lost a player to a broken leg. Samir Nasri suffered the injury during the morning training session in a challenge with Abou Diaby, it was described as “mistakenly kicked”. I have heard that there was a big cracking noise as the challenge came in just as Nasri was about to shoot. He was taken straight to hospital and there have been reports of him missing a big chunk of the season if his leg was completely broken.

According to Wenger its not a severe break and he will only be out of action for a month and a half:

“His injury is a simple fracture of the fibula and not too serious. Nasri should be out for six weeks”

It will probably be at least six weeks until he can return to training but then he will have to undergo pre-season all over again to build up fitness and prevent niggles throughout the rest of the season. I think late October is a realistic aim to return. That said, I am no doctor.

Le boss has also said that Senderos is free to stay at the club for the coming season, speaking after todays friendly he said:

“It is open. He has come back here with us still looking for solutions but he is still yet to decide on his future”.

If he stays I wouldn’t really mind, after all he is one of Cesc’s best mates and it means we have even greater depth in central defence, but if we need the money to fund a world class central midfielder he should be sold on and the money re-invested in the team.

St Etienne have seemingly conceded defeat in their fight to keep midfielder Blaise Matuidi, and he is a player Wenger has been keeping a beady eye on for over a year now. He has made clear his desire to leave so that immediately hands the initiative to any club looking to sign him. Sporting director Comolli said:

“it would be difficult to prevent him from leaving if a top 10 European side came in for him.”

He also re-iterated he was “not for sale”.

I suspect that any bids for midfielders will occur when the team return from Austria, I also have an inkling that now Samir Nasri will be injured for the start of the season, Armand Traore may stay until January at least so we have options on that left hand side, he offers another dimension with his speed.

We have also been offered Roman Pavlyuchenko for 6 million quid by Harry Redknapp according to the Daily Mail. Whenever I have seen him playing he has not looked that great, we have his international team mate Arshavin at the club so that could be a definite attraction if we were interested in him. I don’t see Wenger buying of Spurs though…

Right thats about it I think, lets hope Nasri recovers quickly and the injuries don’t keep on coming.

More tomorrow.

  5. first things first i pray that nasri will will get well soon cause thruth be told we need the lad.Anyway before that i agree we should invest in central defence before we even start of thinking about our midfield which is more than perfect especially with miraculous return of thomas rosisky who we hope will have a quik recovery so that we can expose arshavin in a more attacking role adios! my gooners……….

  6. Nasri news is an unwanted blow, hopefully it will be jus a maximum of 8weeks we miss him for. There is no doubt in my mind we have to re-inforce our sqaud now I mean it was ok when we had Nasri fit but even then thonk we shud av been lookin to buy sum1 um sure now we will I still have my money on Blaise and Chamaz
I keep forgettin we have Traore as an option his speed down the left will really be another asset in our armour

  7. if there was any justice in the world for arsenal’s injuries, diaby would be in hospital right now and nasri would be in the squad against hannover… or preferably neither…

  8. So its not enough for Diaby just to suck it up on the pitch, now he’s taking out our quality players in training. Diaby and Denilson are average at best. We Need a new CM!!
